The real menu and the real hours, on the shop’s own site

Austin Street Pizza has made round and square pies on Austin Street in Forest Hills since 2021. We built its new website around what people check before they walk over: what’s on the menu, what it costs and whether the shop is open.

The brief

The owner wanted people to see the full menu now, because soon they’ll be able to order on the shop’s own website instead of through a third party. Everything on the site had to come from the shop itself: its catalog, its photos, its hours.

What we built

  1. 01

Prices from the shop’s own catalog

Every price on the menu came from the shop’s Square catalog, not from a photo of a paper menu or a listing site.

  2. 02

    The shop’s own photos

The 25 dish photos come from the same catalog. The new site uses no stock images.

  3. 03

    Hours from one place

When we started, listing sites said 11 to 10, every day. The owner’s hours are 11 to 9 from Sunday to Thursday, and 11 to 10 on Friday and Saturday. They live in one file that feeds the page, the footer and the data Google reads.

  4. 04

Pickup and dine in, said plainly

Some listings say the shop delivers. It doesn’t, so the site says pickup and dine in under the name, and again above the menu.

  5. 05

    A menu that explains itself

Three lines above the menu say how it works: whole pies, slices, and how to order.

Ordering, built and waiting

The ordering system is written. Customers will order on the shop’s own site and pay through Square’s secure payment form, so card numbers never touch the website. The server prices every order from the catalog, so the total a customer pays always matches the menu.

It goes live after a full round of tests in Square’s sandbox. Until then, the site sends people to the phone.

Designed like the shop, not like us

White page, black top and bottom, red around the photos: the owner’s own direction. The photos carry every screen, the headlines are tall hand-drawn capitals like a chalkboard menu, and a red band runs the shop’s facts across the page: gluten free crust, vegan mozzarella, two minutes from the 71 Av subway.

Where it stands

The new site is live at a preview address and moves to austinstreetpizza.com at launch. Online ordering is coming soon. Before launch, the shop confirms the reviews quoted on the site against its Google profile.
